In line with the 2015 International Charter of Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport and the approach of UNESCO’s Fit for Life Programme, the UNESCO Office in Peru contributes to promoting a comprehensive approach to sport and creating spaces for dialogue and collaboration among different stakeholders.

In this context, on October 27 and 28, UNESCO, together with the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), Universidad Europea, and Fútbol Más Peru, organized two events addressing complementary dimensions of sport: its contribution to young people’s development and life plans, and the need to strengthen capacities and professionalize the sector.

Both events featured Gabriel Calderón Pellegrino, a UEFA Pro-licensed coach and Academic Director of International Programmes at the Real Madrid Graduate School – Universidad Europea.

UNESCO Talks: Sports, Dreams and Life Plans

On October 27, the UNESCO Talks session entitled “How Far Can a Dream Take You?”, held at the Julia Sánchez Deza Experimental Sports Education Centre, brought together students undergoing sports training to discuss their aspirations and life plans.

It was an inspiring occasion during which, drawing on Gabriel Calderón Pellegrino’s experiences, students shared their concerns and reflected on dreams, teamwork, the ability to learn from mistakes, and the challenges of sports training.

The event was also attended by Óscar Fausto Fernández Cáceres, President of the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), the institution responsible for managing the centre.

At the closing of the event, Guiomar Alonso Cano, UNESCO Representative in Peru, highlighted the importance of supporting high-performance sports training through a more comprehensive approach. “Training through sport also means strengthening self-confidence, emotional well-being, and the ability to face challenges, both on and off the field,” she stated.
