India’s compound archers delivered a commanding performance, sweeping the podium in the men’s individual event at the Asia Cup 2026 archery Stage I tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday.
Uday Kamboj beat Asian Games medallist Prathamesh Jawkar 145-144 to claim gold in the men’s individual compound final.
After trailing Prathamesh Jawkar 59-57 after the second end, Uday Kamboj shot a perfect 30 in the third and moved into the lead in the fourth en route to winning the gold medal.
The men’s individual compound bronze medal match saw Rajat Chauhan edge Peerawat Rattanapongkiat of Thailand 145-144 to ensure India completed the sweep.
India also won the bronze medal in the women’s individual compound archery event after Tejal Salve defeated Mariia Dimidiuk 144-135. The Indian archer dropped just six points across 15 arrows.
Meanwhile, India’s compound archers also dominated the team events, winning the gold and silver medals in the mixed and women’s team events, respectively.
In the compound mixed team, an event that will make its Olympic debut at LA 2028, India’s top-seeded pair of Chikitha Taniparthi and Rajat Chauhan beat Malaysia’s Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh and Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki 158-156 in a tight gold-medal match.
India dropped just two points across 16 arrows, while the second-seeded Malaysian duo dropped four.
Chikitha Taniparthi and Rajat Chauhan gave India a perfect start with four successive 10s and maintained their rhythm despite minor blips in the middle phase.
After three ends, they held a slender lead at 118-117. The Malaysian pair briefly seized back momentum in the third end, shooting a perfect 40 while India managed 39.
However, the final end saw Chikitha Taniparthi and Rajat Chauhan fire four consecutive 10s, while Malaysia managed 39 as India won by two points.
Chikitha Taniparthi and Rajat Chauhan had topped the qualification round with a total of 1409 earlier in the tournament, then beat Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan in the elimination rounds to qualify for the compound mixed team final.
Elsewhere, the Indian women’s compound team of Chikitha Taniparthi, Raj Kaur and Tejal Salve settled for silver after losing 229-227 to Kazakhstan’s Viktoriya Lyan, Diana Yunussova and Roxana Yunussova in the final.
India started strongly and led 115-113 at the halfway stage. However, an underwhelming third end saw them shoot 54, while Kazakhstan managed 58 to overturn the deficit and take a 171-169 lead.
The Indian women’s compound team had also earlier topped qualification with a total of 2080 before beating Hong Kong China and hosts Thailand to make the final.
Meanwhile, India’s compound men’s team of Rajat Chauhan, Uday Kamboj and world No. 4 Rishabh Yadav and the Indian women’s recurve team of Ruma Biswas, Kirti and Ridhi had won bronze medals on Wednesday.
Friday’s haul of six medals across the individual and team compound events saw India finish with a total of eight medals – two gold, two silver and four bronze.
India had sent a 16-member Indian squad – eight men and eight women – across recurve and compound archery events for the Asia Cup 2026 in Bangkok.
