Angel Reese enjoyed a record-breaking night in the WNBA on Monday (24 August).
The U.S. basketball star set two records in the Atlanta Dream’s 78-71 victory at the Los Angeles Sparks: the most rebounds in one WNBA game (26) and the most rebounds in a single season (458).
“Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots,” said Reese post-match (via AP). “Tonight I couldn’t hit [anything] so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side. I just want to be there for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win.”
Reese added 11 points and three assists to her tally on the same night as her record 26 rebounds, surpassing a 23-year mark of 24 boards held by Washington’s Chamique Holdsclaw.
The 24-year-old also overtook current rival A’ja Wilson for the single-season rebound record, which was set in 2024 en route to her third MVP award.
Monday’s triumph was a fourth consecutive victory on the road for Reese and Atlanta, who are fourth in the regular season standings and assured of a play-off berth.
Reese leads the WNBA this season with an average of 12.4 rebounds per game, as she pursues a first championship in her debut season in Atlanta.
