India beat Mongolia 3-0 in its fourth Billie Jean King Cup 2026 Asia-Oceania Group I tie at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association Stadium on Friday.

In the first singles match of the tie, the 27-year-old Zeel Desai, 550th in the WTA rankings, defeated the unranked Anu-Vjin Gantor 6-0, 6-0 in 37 minutes on her Billie Jean King Cup debut.

The 25-year-old Sahaja Yamalapalli, world No. 384, took 42 minutes to beat unranked Jargal Altansarnai with the same scoreline in the next match.

In the doubles, Rutuja Bhosale, who won the Asian Games mixed doubles gold with Rohan Bopanna in 2023, teamed up with Vaishnavi Adkar to beat Khongorzul Aldarkhishig and Jargal Altansarnai 6-1, 6-0 to complete the Indian sweep.

Earlier in the tournament, the Indian tennis team lost 2-1 to Thailand in the opener before beating New Zealand 3-0 in the second tie. They lost 3-0 to Indonesia on Thursday.

India will face the Republic of Korea in their final group match on Saturday. South Korea beat New Zealand, Thailand and Mongolia with identical 3-0 margins in their first three games of Group I and are on top of the standings.

India are currently third in the Asia/Oceania Group I standings with two wins and as many losses.

All six tennis teams in the Billie Jean King Cup 2026 Asia/Oceania Group I are competing in a round-robin format, with the top two nations advancing to the playoffs.

The teams finishing third and fourth will remain in Group I while the bottom two will be relegated to Group II.

Last year, India hosted the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group I stage for the first time at Pune’s Mahalunge Balewadi Tennis Complex.

The Indian tennis team finished the group as runner-ups behind New Zealand to qualify for the Billie Jean King Cup playoffs. However, India’s run ended in the playoffs after losses to the Netherlands and Slovenia.
