Reigning Olympic marathon champion Tamirat Tola led an Ethiopian sweep of the top five places at the 2026 Doha Marathon on Friday (16 January).
Tola’s victory in 2:05:40, a course record, was his first since his incredible run at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Asefa Boki (2:05:55) and Boki Diriba (2:06:26) finished second and third, respectively.
Ethiopian runners also reigned supreme in the women’s marathon, with Tigist Gezahagn crossing the line first in 2:21:14.
Compatriots Tigist Girma (2:22:33) and Muluhabt Tsega (2:23:21) rounded off the top three podium positions.
