In true American fashion, FIFA World Cup 2026 will have its own Super Bowl-inspired half-time show at the final in New Jersey on Sunday, 19 July.
If there was an award for the most musical stars you could squeeze into an 11-minute set, this would be a strong contender.
Having already announced Madonna, Shakira, and BTS as co-headliners, FIFA have also now thrown Canadian pop star Justin Bieber into the mix.
The show has been curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay and will raise money for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative working to raise money for children worldwide.
“The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can,” said Bieber.
“I’m grateful to be part of this half-time show and even more grateful know it’s already helping expand access to education for children around the world.”
In what is being described as a “landmark celebration at the intersection of sport, music, and global impact”, there will also be performances from Burna Boy, PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay, and renowned Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
There will be more familiar faces – or rather, characters – with both Sesame Street and The Muppets set to be part of the historic performance.
“As the world unites for the most significant football match in history, this groundbreaking spectacle will celebrate football, music and our shared values, ensuring a legacy that transcends the final whistle,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The final is being held at the New York New Jersey Stadium, with kick-off at 15:00 local (19:00 GMT).
