At the FIFA World Cup 2026, Argentina‘s Lionel Messi initially overtook Germany’s Miroslav Klose to become the tournament’s all-time leading scorer before France’s Kylian Mbappe rose to the top of the list later in the competition.
Kylian Mbappe’s tally now stands at 22 goals, while Lionel Messi is second on the list with 21.
Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and England’s Harry Kane also joined the list of players to score 10 or more FIFA World Cup goals in the 2026 edition.
