Harvey Corbin can talk all day about his boat – truly. But he has good reason for that, because after losing his livelihood during Hurricane Beryl and having to rebuild from the disaster, the pride that now shines in his eyes as he details his plans to return to fishing is almost tangible.
Harvey’s been a fisherman for just about 30 years, having begun his career as a gourmet butcher. Butchering was something that ran in the family, from the days of his own father. But he laughs as he details how he worked in Bermuda earning a good salary, recalling the many events where he was the top skill for quality cuts of meat.
It was after leaving that Caribbean nation and coming back to Barbados, that he met an older fisherman and became almost instantly hooked on tales of the ocean and fishing. That’s when he really found his calling. There was something attractive about fishing, he recalls, that he still cannot put into exact words.
