Katelyn Ohashi‘s gymnastics comeback continues Saturday (18 July) at USA Gymnastics’ U.S. Classic. The event will be held at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Connecticut.
The field also includes two-time Olympic gold medallist Jade Carey, competing in just her second elite meet since the Olympic Games Paris 2024, and two-time world team champions Skye Blakely and Leanne Wong.
For Ohashi, the U.S. Classic will be her second and final chance to advance to August’s U.S. Championships in Phoenix. The former UCLA star, whose viral 2019 floor routine became a worldwide sensation, returned to competitive gymnastics last month after not having competed since 2019.
Ohashi plans to compete on balance beam and floor exercise. She’ll need to score a combined 26.60 to advance.
Hartford marks the first elite competition since the 2025 World Championships in Jakarta for both Wong, who finished runner-up in the all-around, and Blakely. Blakely has indicated she will only compete on the uneven bars and balance beam here but intends to return to the all-around at the U.S. championships.
Carey is also in the early stages of her return to elite gymnastics as she targets a third trip to the Olympic Games LA28. She competed alongside Ohashi last month at the American Classic near Minneapolis, her first elite competition in the nearly two years since Paris 2024.
She told Olympics.com earlier this year that she plans to gradually increase difficulty over the course of the season with an eye on October’s World Championships in Rotterdam.
Other names to keep an eye on in Hartford include 2025 world team member Dulcy Caylor, first-year senior standout Charleigh Bullock, who finished second in the all-around at the recent Pan American Championships, and Reese Esponda, who won floor exercise at the Jesolo Trophy earlier this year.
