The Indian women’s football team suffered a heavy 8-0 defeat against Russia in the second of two IND-W vs RUS-W 2026 international friendlies at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Sunday.

Daria Inshumatova (22’, 43’), Marine Achoyan (25’, 45+1’), Dayana Kishanova (29’), Elizaveta Semenova (74’) and Nataliya Mashina (49’, 51’) scored for the world No. 27 Russian side against the 69th-ranked India.

This was India’s second defeat to Russia in the space of four days, having gone down 4-0 in the first of the two football friendlies on Thursday.

The Russian women’s football team broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after a cross from the left was mishandled by the Indian goalkeeper Monalisha Devi Moirangthem and resulted in a tap-in for Daria Inshumatova.

Marine Achoyan doubled the lead soon after with a thunderous effort from range that nestled into the top right corner.

Monalisha then produced a good close-range save moments later but was powerless to prevent Russia’s third goal, as an incisive pass split the hosts’ defence to allow Dayana Kishanova to slot home just before the half-hour mark.

The visitors went on to make it 4-0 a couple of minutes before the break after India conceded a penalty, which was calmly slotted in by Daria Inshumatova for her second goal of the match.

Marine Achoyan then made it 5-0 in first-half injury time after capitalising on a misplaced pass by India at the back before angling her effort beyond the goalkeeper.

The goals continued to flow for Russia in the second period as they further extended their advantage just four minutes after the restart through Nataliya Mashina, who latched onto a loose pass by India before placing her shot past the Indian goalkeeper Nandini, playing in her debut match.

Nataliya Mashina then bagged her brace just two minutes later after reacting fastest to yet another misplaced pass and firing past the keeper.

Elizaveta Semenova capped Russia’s scoring in the 74th minute, drilling a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the net.

India have now played Russia four times and are yet to score a goal. Russia won 8-0 at the Turkish Women’s Cup in 2021 before beating India 2-0 at the Pink Ladies Cup in the UAE in 2025.
