Ndugumbi school is among the ten schools in Kinondoni implementing the Integrated Safe School Initiative under the UNESCO O3 Project. Working with government, the initiative is strengthening teachers’ knowledge and competence in delivering life skills-based, SRH, HIV and GBV education, while helping schools prevent bullying and violence as well as promote referral mechanisms to connect learners who need support to appropriate services.
The visit was less about reports and more about seeing the work in practice, meeting learners and teachers, listening to their experiences and understanding what has changed and where more support is needed.
For the Foundation, these conversations are an important part of making the project relevant and responding to learners’ and teachers’ needs and keeping the UNESCO work grounded in what matters most: children feeling safe, supported, and able to learn in a positive and conducive environment.
I congratulate the leadership, teachers, learners, parents, government colleagues and everyone who has contributed to Ndugumbi’s progress. My hope is that what we learn here will help us strengthen this work and ensure that every child has a school where they feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
