The opening ceremony, jointly presided over by UNESCO and MINREX, marked the start of two days of discussions dedicated to positioning Cameroonian gastronomy on the international stage, enhancing its competitiveness, and exploring the opportunities offered by standards, certification and innovation in the culinary sector.
The technical discussions focused on food certification, molecular gastronomy, fisheries resources and non conventional livestock farming, before leading to the formulation of recommendations aimed at strengthening the promotion of Cameroonian culinary knowledge and practices.
The Representative of the Minister of External Relations, Mr Chanou Fonkou Eric, emphasized in his opening remarks that:
Cameroon has the potential to position itself in Africa as a model for sustainable gastronomy, building on the designation of Nkongsamba as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2023, in recognition of the impact of biochar used by the city as a tool for climate smart agriculture.
