Two-time Olympic medallistĀ PV SindhuĀ will return to competitive action for the first time since last September at theĀ Malaysia Open 2026 badmintonĀ tournament, which begins at the Stadium Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

The season-opener, a top-tier BWF Super 1000 tournament, will mark a fresh start for Sindhu after an injury-hit 2025 campaign.
The 30-year-oldĀ Indian badminton player, 18th in the womenās singlesĀ BWF rankings, has not featured on the BWF World Tour since her quarter-final loss toĀ Paris 2024Ā Olympic champion An Se Young at the China Masters last September.
Sindhu subsequently withdrew from the remainder of the 2025 season to recover from a foot injury that hampered her form and led to a series of early exits. She last lifted a title at the Syed Modi International Super 300 in December 2024.
Indiaās womenās singles challenge in Kuala Lumpur will also featureĀ Malvika BansodĀ andĀ Unnati Hooda.
In menās singles, Paris 2024 semi-finalistĀ Lakshya SenĀ and Ayush Shetty will carry Indian hopes. Both tasted success last year ā Sen at the Australian Open Super 500 and Shetty at the US Open Super 300 ā but endured inconsistent seasons marked by multiple first-round exits.
Indiaās prospects in menās doubles will be led by two-time world championships bronze medallistsĀ Chirag ShettyĀ andĀ Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. āSat-Chiā are the third seeds at the Malaysia Open ā a tournament they won back in 2024.
Meanwhile, Indiaās challenge in the womenās doubles event will be spearheaded by Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who head into the tournament after defending their title at the Syed Modi International tournament last month.
In the mixed doubles, Paris 2024 Olympian Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila are Indiaās top pairing at world No. 17.
