Swiss Open 2026: Tanaka takes men’s singles title
Thailand’s Katethong upset the women’s number one seed Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia 21-11, 21-15 to win her first BWF World Tour title in two years.
The 28-year-old, ranked eight places lower than her Indonesian opponent in the world standings, notched eight unanswered points to jump out to an 11-3 lead in the first game of the women’s final.
A second five-point run pushed Katethong’s advantage out further to 16-5 before Wardani responded with her own flurry to hit double digits at 17-10.
However, it ultimately was of little concern for the Thai shuttler, who was then able to close out the opener 21-11.
The second game proved much tighter, with Wardani able to stay on the coattails of Katethong for longer periods.
But after a crucial two-point break to go up 18-14, Katethong then surged again, finding three consecutive points to hold off Wardani 21-15 and take the win in Basel.
