Sha’Carri Richardson is the American champion in the women’s 100m once again.
The Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist claimed her third U.S. title on Friday (24 July) at the 2026 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships in New York City, after previous wins in 2023 and 2024.
Richardson’s 10.77 was a season’s best, with the 2023 world champion gaining speed down the stretch as she overtook Kayla White for the victory.
She didn’t slow down after the finish line, roaring around the bend and letting out a scream of joy. She came back to the crowd as she was announced the winner, taking an appropriate bow.
“It just feels phenomenal to be back in a better place – healthy, mentally, physically, emotionally,” Richardson, 26, told NBC while sitting criss-cross on the ground following her race.
White was second for a second straight year, going 10.90, while Tamari Davis was third in 11.00.
2025 winner Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who is also the reigning world 100m champion, opted to focus on the 200m for the weekend. She still holds the meet record of 10.65, set just last year.

Richardson ties Jeter with three U.S. titles since 2000
A shift in self-belief has aided Richardson in a return to some of her best form this season.
“(I regained my form) remembering who I am,” she told NBC. “Knowing that consistency and being determined to be better, to be more every single day, I think that’s something that has challenged me to demonstrate more.”
Cruising by White down the stretch, she ran straight into a tie with Olympic gold medalist Carmelita Jeter for the most 100m national titles for a female since 2000.
Richardson, who tied her season best on Friday, now turns her focus to the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in early September.
“[Today] shows that hard work pays off,” she concluded. “Everything that me and [my] coach have been working on. It shows consistently.”
