Rodrigues will be the only new WPL captain. Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Ashleigh Gardner will continue to lead their respective sides while UPW will have Meg Lanning at the helm.

Ahead of the WPL 2026 season, which runs from January 9 to February 5, all five franchises have confirmed their captains for the new campaign.

For the fourth rendition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) – India’s top franchise T20 cricket tournament – three of the five teams have opted for continuity, keeping faith in their established skippers.

Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Giants (GG) have retained their captains from the last season.

Three-time runner-ups Delhi Capitals (DC) and UP Warriorz (UPW) have opted for a fresh direction with new names – Jemimah Rodrigues and Meg Lanning – at the helm.
