He might be the old man in a sea of youth, but Adam Ramsay-Peaty still has plenty left to give two years out from the Olympic Games LA28, storming to victory in the men’s 100m breaststroke at the 2026 GB Swimming Championships on Tuesday (14 April).
Flanked on either side by teenage phenoms Filip Nowacki and Max Morgan, the 31-year-old led from start to finish at the London Aquatics Centre, clocking a time of 58.97 seconds to put his rivals, both near and far, on notice ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
That includes training partner and eight-time Island Games gold medallist Nowacki, who touched the wall second in a time of 59.39 seconds, followed closely by 18-year-old Morgan in third at 59.56 seconds.
“It’s great to race these young guys,” Ramsay-Peaty told broadcasters after the race. “They keep on my toes, and I got the best out of myself by racing these guys today.”
“Coming into these championships, I just felt anything like 59-mid would be pretty good,” he added. “I just said to myself, ‘what have I got to lose? And it was nothing, so why not give everything and risk it. And it worked out.”
Controlling the race with his trademark attacking style, the six-time Olympic medallist produced a mighty final surge to hold off a hard-charging Nowacki, as the youngster attempted to overhaul his mentor at AP Race in the closing meters.
“[We’ve] got some talented youngsters coming through the sport, especially in this event,” acknowledged Ramsey-Peaty, putting his arms around Nowacki and Morgan. “When I do retire one day, this event is safe in the world.”
19-year-old Eva Okaro certainly provided a similar level of optimism in the women’s 100m freestyle, storming to victory ahead of Evelyn Davis (53.99) and Freya Colbert (54.02) in a time of 53.75 seconds at the London Aquatics Centre.
Keanna Macinnes ruled the pool in the women’s 200m butterfly (2:07.02), while three-time Olympic champion James Guy led the entirety of the men’s 400m freestyle, clocking 4:18.67 to win yet another British title.
More action is due up from the 2026 GB Swimming Championships on Wednesday (15 April), with the women’s 1500m freestyle, men’s 50m breaststroke, men’s 200m butterfly, women’s 100m backstroke and men’s 400m individual medley set to take centre stage.
