A total of 122 Indian athletes are in the hunt for medals and podium glory at the Commonwealth Games 2026, scheduled from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland.
At the Glasgow 2026 CWG, India will be in medal contention across eight able-bodied sports – athletics, artistic gymnastics, bowls, boxing, judo, swimming, track cycling, weightlifting – as well as five integrated para disciplines – para athletics, para powerlifting, para swimming, para track cycling and 3×3 wheelchair basketball.
Lovlina Borgohain is already assured of a medal at Glasgow 2026 after receiving a quarter-final bye in the women’s 75kg event, with both losing semi-finalists in boxing awarded bronze medals.
However, Lovlina will be eager to convert it into gold before the medal registers on the official tally.
Jhandu Kumar registered India on the Glasgow 2026 medal table after clinching bronze in para powerlifting. Weightlifter Rishikanta Singh was the first able-bodied Indian to win a medal at CWG 2026 as he won a silver in the men’s 60kg category with a new Games record in snatch.
Mirabai Chanu, meanwhile, lifted India’s first gold in Glasgow registering a hat-trick of CWG titles.
So far, India have won four medals – one gold, two silver and one bronze – at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Neeraj Chopra, who won the men’s javelin throw gold at Gold Coast 2018, leads a 32-member Indian athletics squad in Scotland and will aim to contribute to India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 medal tally.
The Indian javelin throw ace skipped his title defence at Birmingham 2022 on account of an injury and will hope to regain his crown.
The likes of Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Murali Sreeshankar, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Parul Chaudhary and Gulveer Singh will also be eager to add to India’s Commonwealth Games medal tally at Glasgow 2026.
Ahead of the Glasgow meet, India won 564 medals at the Commonwealth Games across 18 appearances, making them the fourth-most successful nation in the history of the quadrennial meet after Australia, England and Canada.
Glasgow 2026 marks the country’s 19th CWG participation with the first coming way back in 1934.
Pistol shooter Jaspal Rana sits at the top of India’s all-time Commonwealth Games winners list with 15 medals – nine gold, four silver and two bronze.
Shooting has been the single biggest contributor to India’s Commonwealth Games medals tally, though the sport has not featured on the programme since Gold Coast 2018.
India’s best-ever showing came at New Delhi 2010, where the hosts won 101 medals – 39 gold, 26 silver and 36 bronze – to finish second on the CWG medals table, their highest position at any edition. It remains the only time India crossed 100 medals at the Commonwealth Games.
India finished fourth at Birmingham 2022 with 61 medals, including 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze. A pared-back Glasgow programme, however, has dropped nine of the sports contested in Birmingham – among them wrestling, badminton, table tennis and hockey – which together accounted for 25 of those 61 medals.
