Asian Games 2026: India eye another record medal haul and Olympic quotas – where to watch live

The Asian Games 2026 officially gets underway in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday, with India looking to build on its record-breaking medal haul from the previous edition in Hangzhou.

Live streaming and telecast of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games will be available to watch in India.

The upcoming Asian Games will feature 45 countries and regions competing across 43 sports. This will be the 20th edition of the Games and the third time that the continental showpiece is being hosted by Japan after Tokyo 1958 and Hiroshima 1994.

India will look to defend both the men’s and women’s titles in cricket and kabaddi, while their men’s hockey team will also enter as the reigning champions.

In cricket, Shreyas Iyer will lead India’s title defence in the men’s T20 competition, with teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also included.

The Indian women’s cricket team will be led by T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Hockey will have added significance in Aichi-Nagoya, with the men’s and women’s tournaments serving as continental qualification events for the LA 2028 Olympics.

For India, Olympic quotas are also available in archerysailingsquash, surfing and tennis.

Despite defending javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra‘s withdrawal with an ankle injury, India’s contingent will still feature five individual Olympic medallists at the Asian Games.

PV Sindhu will spearhead India’s badminton campaign, while Mirabai Chanu will lead the weightlifting contingent. Manu Bhaker will be among the country’s leading names in shooting, with Aman Sehrawat taking the mat in wrestling. Lovlina Borgohain, meanwhile, will look to pack a punch in boxing.

India’s boxers will arrive in Aichi-Nagoya after a record-breaking Commonwealth Games campaign, where they won 10 medals, including seven gold.

Athletics will feature over 70 Indian track and field athletes with Gulveer SinghTejaswin Shankar and Olympian Sarvesh Kushare some of India’s leading medal prospects.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor heads into Aichi-Nagoya as a two-time defending champion in shot put.  

Anahat Singh will also return to the Asian Games after helping India win a women’s team bronze in squash in Hangzhou. She also won a mixed doubles bronze at the Games alongside Abhay Singh.

India heads to the continental showpiece looking to build on its record-breaking campaign at Hangzhou 2023, where they won 107 medals, including 28 gold.

The Asian Games 2026 will be spread across 54 competition venues in Japan with the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium serving as the main arena.

Where to watch Asian Games 2026 live in India

Live streaming of the Asian Games 2026 will be available on Sony LIV. The Asian Games will be telecast live on the Sony Sports 1 and Sony Sports 5 TV channels in India. It will also be broadcast live in regional languages on Sony Sports 3 (Hindi) and Sony Sports 4 (Tamil, Telugu and Kannada).
