Seeking an unprecedented fifth WNBA MVP award in 2026, A’ja Wilson extended her long list of accolades on Sunday (20 September), becoming the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in two separate seasons.
Her 12th 30-point game of the season in the Las Vegas Aces’ 98-77 win against the Seattle Storm took her beyond 1,000 points for the second time in her career.
Wilson, a four-time MVP in nine seasons, became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 points in a season in 2024, when she scored 1,021 points across 38 games to set the league’s single-season scoring record.
The only other player to have matched the 1,000-point season has been Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell, who reached 1,001 points in 40 games this season, before Wilson joined her in the 1,000-point club for a second time.
“I don’t take this moment for granted,” the 32-year-old told the media after the game.
“When you’re able to be in the record books for the WNBA, it’s a pretty big deal considering how many players have played this game, how many players are playing the game currently. I’m blessed to be in this situation.”
Earlier this season, Wilson became the fastest player to reach 6,000 career points, doing so in 278 games, before becoming only the second player in WNBA history to reach 6,500 points. She reached the latter milestone 106 games faster than Candace Parker.
Wilson is averaging 26.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists this season.
The Aces’ victory over the Storm was their fifth straight win. They sit third in the WNBA standings as they chase back-to-back championships.
