On 18 March 2026, the Ibero-American Intergovernmental Network for Cooperation on Special Educational Needs (RIINEE) launched its mentoring programme for six selected schools from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile and Peru, following a UNESCO call for educational and technological innovation initiatives for the inclusion of students with disabilities.
The mentoring will take place over the next six months in collaboration with Tu Clase, the institution responsible for implementing the training process. During this period, the programme will promote the incorporation of inclusive pedagogical practices and the development of a reflective integration of accessible educational technologies.
The programme aims to strengthen the implementation of educational innovations designed to reduce or eliminate the learning barriers faced by students with disabilities, promoting more equitable and inclusive educational environments.
The process includes pedagogical support that recognises the diversity of the trajectories, experiences and contexts of the participating educational communities. Through a comprehensive approach, the initiative seeks to enhance practices that bring together inclusive education, pedagogical innovation and the appropriate use of technology.
As part of the process, teachers and educational teams identified barriers such as the limited availability of accessible and technological resources, as well as the need to expand opportunities for continuous training and awareness-raising within educational communities. For this reason, at the start of the programme, participants expressed high expectations regarding the strengthening of their projects and the possibility of expanding collaboration with other educational experiences. They also raised key questions about how to scale up these practices to other contexts and how to ensure the sustainability of innovations over time.
This initiative is made possible through the joint work of UNESCO, the Ministry of Education of Spain and AECID, within the framework of the project “Advancing regional cooperation to promote the right to education for people with disabilities”.
