The new interactive exhibition uses immersive digital tools to inspire ocean literacy and sustainable marine stewardship among young learners and communities.

The UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok and Office for UN Coordination for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCO Bangkok), in cooperation with the Bangkok Children’s Discovery Museum (Chatuchak) under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), today launched a new interactive exhibition using immersive digital tools to promote ocean literacy and sustainable marine practices among children and youth, with benefits extending to families and the wider community.

Launched on the occasion of Thailand’s National Children’s Day, the exhibition forms part of UNESCO’s regional project Sustaining Our Oceans: Building Healthy Relationships with Oceans in South-East Asia through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), supported by Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., the parent company of UNIQLO.

Designed as a permanent exhibition space, the installation features augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences that allow learners of all ages to explore ocean ecosystems, understand marine biodiversity, and reflect on the relationship between people and the ocean.

‘Education plays a critical role in shaping future generations’ understanding and care for the ocean’, said Rika Yorozu, Education Programme Specialist at UNESCO Bangkok, at the launch. ‘By combining digital innovation with experiential learning, this exhibition helps young people grasp the real-world implications of environmental change and empowers them to take action.’

‘This exhibition will serve as a long-term ocean education hub, open to the public,’ said Mrs. Vilai Jaroenchaisakul, Director-General of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. ‘It supports children and youth in developing a deeper connection to the ocean and encourages them to become advocates for its protection.’
