On the National Day of Persons with Disabilities and Inclusive Education Day, UNESCO Peru reaffirms its commitment to building a more just, equitable, and inclusive country, where everyone, without exception, can learn, participate, and fully develop their potential.
This occasion invites us to reflect on the progress made and the challenges we still face regarding inclusion within our educational institutions and communities. At UNESCO, we believe that inclusion requires a coordinated effort across all sectors, grounded in the removal of barriers, the transformation of attitudes, and the creation of accessible environments for all.
Through the Learning Without Barriers program, we work alongside specialists, school leaders, teachers, students, and families to strengthen educational communities and promote spaces for dialogue, action, and reflection on the diversity present in schools. Every student brings their own story, perspective, and unique way of learning; recognizing this allows us to build more equitable and inclusive schools and societies.
The Learning Without Barriers program, which runs for three years, is funded by Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and implemented by a consortium led by RET International, in partnership with UNESCO Peru, Plan International, and ASOVENTRU.
On this commemorative day, we remember that inclusive education is both a right and a shared responsibility.
