Don’t make bets about world records with Caspar Corbeau.
If you do, be prepared to walk onto a stage at a bodybuilding competition. Just ask Corbeau’s coach, Mark Faber.
“We still need to find it. I think he’s trying to push it under the rug,” Corbeau said of Faber’s impending debut as a bodybuilder after he lost a bet that his swimmer would finish the 200m breaststroke under the 2-minute mark.
Corbeau swam the race in a time of 1:59.52 at the Swimming World Cup in October 2025, breaking a short-course world record that has stood for nearly seven years. He got a medal and prize money for it, but now comes the ultimate payoff.
“We’re going to find a good one, hopefully in Europe, where there’s a bit of eyes on it,” the world record holder said with a mischievous smile. “It will be funny to see him on stage with all the guys who are absolutely jacked. It’ll be a funny experience.”
Whether it’s bets on world records, training in exotic locations or racing a trio of events few swimmers dare to combine, the Paris 2024 bronze medallist in the men’s 200m breaststroke does not shy away from bold pursuits.
