Asian Boxing Championships 2026: Minakshi Hooda, Jaismine Lamboria shine as six Indian women reach finals

Indian boxersĀ continued its impressive run at theĀ Asian Boxing Championships 2026Ā in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Tuesday with a total of four boxers – two women and two men – storming into the finals.

Reigning world championsĀ Minakshi HoodaĀ andĀ Jaismine LamboriaĀ led the charge in the women’s semi-finals on Tuesday, whileĀ Vishvanath SureshĀ andĀ Sachin SiwachĀ produced strong performances in the men’s category.

In the women’s 48kg semi-finals, Minakshi registered a confident 4-1 victory over Thailand’s Thipsatcha Yodwaree to seal her spot in the gold medal bout.

Jaismine, meanwhile, edged past Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova by a closely contested 3-2 decision in the women’s 57kg semis.

In the men’s division, Vishvanath Suresh (50kg) delivered a dominant performance, outclassing Jordan’s Huthaifa Eshish with a unanimous 5-0 win to advance to the final.

Sachin Siwach (60kg) also impressed with a solid 4-1 victory over Thailand’s Sakda Ruamtham in his semis clash.

In other semi-final bouts, India’s Akash (men’s 75kg) lost 4-1 to Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Abdurakhimov while Lokesh (men’s 85kg) went down 5-0 against Jasurbek Yuldoshev of Uzbekistan.

Narender Berwal (men’s 90+kg) suffered a 4-1 defeat to the People’s Republic of China’s Bayikewuzi Danabieke, with the bout being stopped in the first round due to a cut to the Indian boxer.

Harsh Choudhary (90kg) also lost 4-1 to Tajikistan’s Parviz Karimov.

On Monday,Ā Nikhat ZareenĀ (women’s 51kg), Olympic medallistĀ Lovlina BorgohainĀ (women’s 75kg) and Pooja Rani (women’s 80kg) had lost their respective semis bouts, settling for bronze medals.

Tuesday’s wins take the number of Indian finalists at the UlaanbatarĀ boxingĀ meet to eight – six women and two men.

Three women’s boxers – Preeti Pawar (54kg), Priya (60kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) – had qualified for the final on Monday. Meanwhile, Alfiya Pathan (women’s +80kg) will start her campaign directly from the final.

Preeti Pawar will go up against Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-wen in the final, while Priya faces the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s Un Gyong Won for gold.

Arundhati Choudhary is set to meet Kazakhstan’s Bakyt Seidish in her gold medal bout. Minakshi faces local favourite Nomundari Enkh-Amgalan while Jaismine will square off against Thailand’s Punrawee Ruenros for the title.

The men’s finals are yet to be decided.

According to the Boxing Federation of India’s selection process, boxers who reach the finals at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 secure direct qualification for theĀ Commonwealth GamesĀ andĀ Asian Games.
