Several of India’s Asian Games-bound athletes, including Parul Chaudhary, Avinash Sable and Animesh Kujur, warmed up for Aichi-Nagoya with victories at the Indian Athletics Final Series 2026 in New Delhi on Thursday.
Parul, who holds the Indian women’s 3000m steeplechase national record of 9:12.46, comfortably won the event in 9:22.49 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Sable, the reigning Asian Games champion in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, clocked 8:32.39 to top his event. The two-time Olympian holds the national record of 8:09.91, set in Paris in 2024. It was Sable’s first 3000m steeplechase race of 2026 following a lengthy injury layoff.
India’s 200m national record holder Animesh Kujur completed a sprint double. The 23-year-old Indian athlete won the men’s 100m in 10.21s, ahead of 100m national record holder Gurindervir Singh, before returning to take the 200m in 20.59s.
The hammer throw produced two Indian national records.
Nirbhay Choudhary broke the Indian men’s hammer throw record with an effort of 71.02m, surpassing Neeraj Kumar’s previous national mark of 70.73m set in 2016.
In the women’s event, Tanya Chaudhary produced 68.35m to take the national record from Anushka Yadav, who finished second with 66.34m. Anushka had held the previous national mark of 67.02m.
In the men’s javelin throw, Asian Games-bound Rohit Yadav topped the field with 81.10m. Yashvir Singh, who won bronze at the Commonwealth Games 2026 and is also headed to Aichi-Nagoya, finished third with 80.40m.
Annu Rani, the reigning Asian Games women’s javelin throw champion, also signed off with a victory, topping her event with 57.50m.
National record holder Ancy Sojan led a one-two finish with Shaili Singh in the women’s long jump. Ancy produced a best effort of 6.76m while Shaili managed 6.65m.
Two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill also managed a one-two finish in the men’s shot put. Toor produced a best effort of 20.64m while Samardeep registered 19.59m.
Harita Bhadra produced one of the standout track performances of the meet, winning the women’s 100m in 11.22s.
The time made Harita the second-fastest Indian woman in the 100m behind national record holder Dutee Chand, who clocked 11.17s in 2021.
Vishal TK, who holds the men’s 400m national record, won the one-lap race in 45.36s, while Mohammed Afsal won the men’s 800m in 1:46.40.
Dev Meena cleared 5.40m to win the men’s pole vault, while Asian champion Pooja Singh, who holds the Indian women’s high jump national mark, prevailed with a 1.81m clearance.
Commonwealth Games 2026 bronze medallist Seema Kaliramana won the women’s discus throw with a best effort of 56.52m.
