India registered an impressive 2-0 victory over Australia in the third game of the four-match AUS vs IND 2026 series at the Perth Hockey Stadium on Friday.
The goals for India, ninth in the women’s hockey rankings, were scored by Sonam (36’) and Lalremsiami Hmarzote (49’) to help the visitors register back-to-back wins against world No. 8 Australia.
The Indian women’s hockey team, led by Salima Tete, a Commonwealth Games and Asian Games bronze medallist, now leads the four-match series 2-1.
India lost the opening match of the series 2-1 on Tuesday before winning the second with a 4-2 shootout victory. The final match of the tour is scheduled on Saturday.
The third match between the two sides featured disciplined defensive displays from both teams, with no goals in the first two quarters.
India eventually found the breakthrough in the third quarter when Sonam scored a field goal to put the visitors ahead.
The visitors continued their momentum in the final quarter as Lalremsiami doubled the lead with another field goal to seal a 2-0 win for her team.
India’s tour Down Under is serving as important preparatory matches for India ahead of the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup, scheduled to take place in Auckland from June 15 to 21.
The upcoming Nations Cup will be India’s opportunity to earn back promotion to the 2026-27 FIH Pro League – a qualifying event for the LA 2028 Olympics.
