India’s Selva Prabhu won the men’s triple jump title at the Oregon Team Invitational 2026 athletics meet in the USA on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Indian athlete, who won the U20 World Athletics Championships silver medal in 2022, topped the field at the Hayward Field in Eugene with a best effort of 16.61m. His other two successful marks on the day read 16.57m and 16.37m.
Apalos Edwards came second with a 16.53m effort while Jhavor Bennett capped off the top three with a 16.11m mark.
Selva Prabhu’s personal best in men’s triple jump is 17.05m, which he registered at the NCAA Indoor Championships athletics meet in Fayetteville back in March. It is also the Indian indoor national record in the event.
Overall, Praveen Chithravel holds the men’s triple jump national record with 17.37m – a mark he achieved twice.
This was Selva Prabu’s third title in the 2026 athletics season. He had kicked off his season with a win at the Thane Baker athletics meet in Manhattan, Kansas, in January.
His effort of 16.49m there also saw him breach the Athletics Federation of India entry standard of 16.28m for the Asian Games 2026, scheduled to be held in Japan later this year.
However, breaching the AFI mark does not guarantee Prabhu a place in India’s Asian Games contingent. Under the AFI selection process, athletes must compete in a minimum of three domestic competitions – including mandatory participation at state championships.
Selva Prabhu also won the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto earlier this month with a 15.76m effort. The Indian jumper finished second in three of his other four competitive outings this year.
The Oregon Team Invitational is a Category E event on the World Athletics calendar.
