This initiative is also part of UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme, which aims to strengthen dialogue between research, knowledge production and public policy development. Through the support provided by the UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa, the process of operationalising the Youth Development Index (YDI), the Civic Values Application Index (CVI) and the Qualitative Social Cohesion Barometer (QSCB) is contributing to the establishment of measurement tools that will provide public decision makers with reliable data to guide, monitor and evaluate national policies on youth, civic responsibility and social cohesion.
These statistical tools will contribute to achieving the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2020–2030 (NDS30), the National Youth Policy, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
The main objective of this session is to consolidate the conceptual and methodological reviews developed by the technical team in order to ensure the scientific validity of the selected concepts, the relevance of the proposed indicators, the feasibility of data collection and ownership of the approach by the various stakeholders.
During the working session, participants are examining the concepts, operational definitions, calculation methodologies and potential data sources for each of the indicators under development. The approach adopted prioritises participatory discussions and an in depth review of the working documents, with the support of an expert from the National Institute of Statistics.
The expected results of this session include the validation of the concepts and definitions of the indicators, the harmonisation of calculation methodologies, the definition of weighting methods and interpretation thresholds, as well as the scheduling of the next working sessions.
Through this initiative, MINJEC reaffirms its commitment to developing reliable and innovative statistical tools to better guide public policies on youth, civic responsibility and the strengthening of social cohesion in Cameroon.
