During the meeting, Dr Jean Roland Onana, National Programme Officer for Culture, presented UNESCO’s work to safeguard food traditions, which embody identities, knowledge and dialogue among peoples.
Cultural journalists asked several questions about the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Convention’s various Lists, the inscription processes, the role of communities and the impact of inscriptions. It should be noted that, for Cameroon, “Achu, an expression of traditional culinary art” is currently being evaluated for possible inscription in 2026.
The event also brought together presenters from community radio stations benefiting from the “Support for Local Development through Community Radio Stations” project, implemented by UNESCO with funding from the Government of Cameroon.
