India’s Tanvi Sharma reached the women’s singles final at the Taipei Open 2026 badminton tournament on Saturday, but compatriot Unnati Hooda’s run ended at the semi-final stage of the BWF Super 300 event.

World No. 34 Tanvi Sharma, unseeded, needed just 33 minutes to get past fifth seed Huang Yu-Hsun of Chinese Taipei, winning her semi-final match 21-17, 21-11 at the Taipei Arena.

In the first game, Tanvi never ceded the lead. The Chinese Taipei player, 24th in the badminton rankings, was on level terms just once – at 3-3.

The second game saw Tanvi Sharma and Huang Yu-Hsun level at 9-all before Tanvi raced ahead with a cluster of six unanswered points before closing out the match.

Sunday’s title clash will be Tanvi Sharma’s second BWF Super 300 final, having finished runner-up at last year’s US Open.

The 17-year-old Indian badminton player is yet to win a BWF tournament, having also lost the finals at the 2024 Odisha Masters and 2025 Guwahati Masters – both Super 100 events – earlier.

Tanvi Sharma, part of India’s badminton squad for the 2026 Asian Games, will meet Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam in the final. The Vietnamese reached the title match by ending Unnati Hooda’s challenge.

Third seed Unnati Hooda went down 21-15, 21-18 to Nguyen, falling one step short of a maiden BWF World Tour 2026 final.

After ceding the opening game without much resistance, Unnati was leading the second game 16-11, but the sixth-seeded Nguyen Thuy Linh mounted a comeback to snuff out any possibilities of a decider.

India’s challenge in men’s singles at the Taipei Open ended in the quarter-finals with Kiran George’s exit in the quarter-finals. HS Prannoy had bowed out in the round of 16.

India’s doubles campaign wrapped up on Wednesday with Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu losing their opener.
