UNESCO and Pacific Islands Forum Strengthen Collaboration on Regional Priorities

Secretary General Waqa warmly welcomed Mr Alam and his delegation to Nasonini for a forward‑looking dialogue on deepening collaboration between UNESCO and the Pacific Islands Forum.

Discussions focused on aligning UNESCO–PIF collaboration with the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, with particular emphasis on improving education quality and strengthening teacher capacity across the region. Exchanges also highlighted cooperation in ocean science, climate resilience, and the reinforcement of institutional partnerships to advance shared regional priorities. In the culture sector, exchanges highlighted opportunities to reinforce regional cooperation in safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage as a pillar of Pacific identity and sustainable development.

The meeting underscored the strategic importance of a strong UNESCO–PIF partnership in supporting Pacific‑led development agendas and advancing regional priorities.

Both sides expressed their intention to further deepen collaboration in light of upcoming regional milestones and shared regional initiatives.
