Indian boxers concluded their World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 campaign in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday with five medals – one gold, three silver and one bronze.
Chandrika Pujari led the charge with the gold medal in the women’s 51kg boxing division. She beat Uzbekistan’s Mardonova Nazokat in the final with a unanimous decision.
Three Indian boxers finished with silver medals after reaching the finals in their respective categories.
Gunjan (women’s 48kg) went down to her opponent from England by a 5-0 decision, while Joyshree Devi (women’s 54kg) fought hard but lost 4-1 to Guadalupe Ruiz from the United States.
In the men’s 50kg category, Ambekar Meetei also settled for silver after losing his final bout to Ukraine’s Mykhailo Sydorenko.
Earlier in the tournament, Radhamani Longjam (women’s 57kg) secured a bronze medal after bowing out in the semi-finals following a closely contested bout against Ukraine’s Yevanhelina Petruk.
Held in Bangkok from March 8 to 15, the World Boxing Futures Cup was part of the qualification pathway for this year’s Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal. It was open to boxers born between January 1, 2008, and December 31, 2009.
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the first Olympic event to be held on African soil, will take place from October 31 to November 13.
